As mentioned in our Facebook post earlier this week, both movies are about a young boy who has to overcome great odds with the help of an unlikely friend. A story anyone can relate to, especially if you are trying to learn your second language. It can definitely seem like a daunting task, but sometimes you may find assistance or inspiration in the some unlikely ways. It may not be from an oversized, white, medical robot, or an alien botanist stranded on Earth, but just maybe it could be from a nice little English school in Shonandai with an affinity for singular bridges.
We enjoyed watching these movies in English with our students. We made sure we included English and Japanese subtitles to ensure everyone was able to enjoy. Along with the movies, we created the purple booklets you see in the upper left hand corner. The booklets were filled with English phrases and vocabulary that correlated with the movies, and the probable opinions that would come after watching. All of which had Japanese explanation and translations.
We will post a Japanese version of this post soon, as it is getting a little late. If you haven't seen Big Hero 6 or E.T. (especially E.T.) we highly recommend it.
