Today we had hotcakes for breakfast.
OR...
Today we had pancakes for breakfast.
Without having done a ton of research on this topic, I think most people from where I am from, might be scratching their head at the term hotcakes, and most people from where my wife is from, might be scratching their head at the term pancakes.
In Japan the breakfast staple we see pictured above is usually called hotcakes, or "hottokeeki" using the Katakana ホットケーキ. However in the US, or at least on the West Coast most people know them as pancakes. The reason why I am not so sure EVERYONE in the US calls them pancakes, is because my grandma would call them hotcakes.
With that said, I do have friends back in the States who didn't recognize the term hotcake right away. Granted, after a second or two of confusion, they realized that hotcake probably meant pancake, but still, it is a funny little dilemma.
Anyways, if you are still reading this, what do you usually call those delicious, flat, dough frisbees?
Also what do you usually put on them? Personally, I like peanut butter and maple syrup. :)
